House Committee Meeting Minutes

Meeting of June 26, 2011

Present: Nancy Brooks, Chris Hurd, Mandy Abrams, Mark Warren

Absent: Cheryl Coulter, Nan Godfrey, Ryan Phelan, Mike Phelan

Chris Hurd has agreed to continue as the Social Committee Chairperson for another year. This was approved by the House Committee Chairperson.

The Night Out at the Club scheduled for August 11th will either be cancelled or rescheduled due to conflict with the Men’s Club Championship

Open Items:

  • The Nite Out at the Club scheduled for August 11th will either be cancelled or rescheduled due to conflict with the Men’s Club Championship
  • The new web site remains a work in progress. It is hoped that the new web site will allow for the signing up for social events. We would like to inform the members of the club that they can sign up via email or telephone. We will try to work out the details on that soon.
  • We are exploring the possibility of having an easy meal to be included with the Fall and Winter Happy Hours, such as chili or soup. The cost of the food has not been determined.
  • We agreed to have a seafood menu for the September 8th Night Out at the Club. A deposit with the caterer has already been made. We hope to have a pasta meal available for those who don’t wish to eat seafood . Mark needs to check with Brad Littlefield on the cost of that night’s entertainment to see if we can absorb the additional cost of the meal without charging the members more.
  • A music group comprised of local children wishes to perform at the Club on December 15th. We are hoping to go to a show performed by this group prior to that date. If we agree to have the show we will have a desert event with open bar prior to the performance. Any of you wishing to preview this group should talk to James, the café cook, for information on the group. If you find out when and where they are playing please share that information with the rest of the House committee.
  • The Halloween event on October 29th will have a pot luck dinner. Let’s explore having a best costume contest with a possible award of a gift certificate to the café or the pro shop.
  • We had complaints about the wait staff cleaning off tables still being used by guests at the previous Nite Out at the Club events while the entertainment was still performing. This creates an unpleasant atmosphere for those remaining. I’m not sure who is responsible for communicating this to the wait staff – please let me know if you know the answer to that.
  • We will try to schedule future Burger Nights to coincide with the Friday Happy Hour.
  • Chris and Mark discussed having a Volunteer/Member appreciation event. We could have 2 for 1 drinks and light appetizers. I want to explore having a raffle to offset the cost of the event. We need someone to head organizing this event. Please let me know if any of you can work on that.
  • Ryan needs to complete a Wish List for the kitchen and present it to Mark and Tyler. We may have a good opportunity to acquire equipment from Irene as a donation or at a reduced cost. Please work on this soon, Ryan.
  • Chris is working to get a Suggestion Box in the Club House for members to give their ideas about social activity at the club.

Closed Items:

  • Mary Jo Lesage is overseeing the Texas Hold ‘Em event scheduled for Saturday, September 24th.
  • The John Denver Night Out at the Club will have a bar theme.

Action Items:

  • Mark Warren will design a sign-up sheet for the groups using the club for mahjongg, bridge, etc.
  • Mark will communicate with Brad Littlefield that the entertainment at Night Out at the Club not start playing until after dinner. This will allow for better socializing during the meal.
  • We need to verify the date of the War of the Roses tournament.

Next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday July 26 at 10:00am.

Respectfully submitted Mark Warren.
