Sunland G&CC
Annual Meeting
June 7, 2011 - Summary
The meeting was called to order by President Bill Engle. Bill
reported that the early sign-up this year assisted the Board with
the budgeting process and expects to use the same process next year.
Last year’s donations to the club both from members and non-members
helped the club out last year. This year the club will be requesting
donations again with a new program of matching funds with the
generosity of some members providing the matching funds. Bill gave a
review of the Café (and catering) past budgetary issues and the
great strides that have been made this last year to almost break
even. He also reviewed the ProShop efforts this past year and
expectations for the coming year. Bill stated that a rough mower has
been purchased for the course maintenance (details posted in the
May
Board minutes). Tyler was offered another job at a golf course
in Colorado; fortunately for us he has decided not to accept the
offer and remain at Sunland. Bill reminded the members to use the
facilities here and assist in getting the word out about Sunland.
President Bill Engle then introduced the current Board members
and thanked them for their service. The three candidates for the
2011-2012 Board were introduced with a brief bio of each: Bob Greer,
Mark Warren, and Allen Weinert.
Bob Greer, Treasurer, presented this year’s budget which is tight
and doesn’t allow any “wiggle room”. He summarized that the club was
able to manage within last year’s budget with the club donations,
increased income from the ProShop and driving range, bar profits,
great strides by the food/beverage, and Danny’s maintenance budget
savings of $36,000. Donations are included as a line item for the
2011-2012 annual budget.
Marsha Carr, Membership Committee chair, introduced the committee
members. Marsha reviewed the Ambassador program, realtor incentive
program, and the Business Membership program including the T-box
advertising efforts by Rick Godfrey. Several of the audience members
held up some of the signs that are ready to be placed at some of the
T boxes on the course. The efforts of Henry Meyer, Ruth Lowe, and
Mark Warren resulted in a great Marketing manual for the club. The
club will be part of the Lavender Festival thanks to the efforts of
Elaine Barnhart with website ads with our golfing rates. Links to
the festival can be found at the first page of our
website. Carol Goodman has
worked on the B&B promotions. Marsha also reviewed the efforts that
went into the Open House held last weekend.
Jay Tomlin, Golf Committee chair, reviewed what the golf
committee actual does and introduced its members. Accomplishments
during the last year included opening up the Super Senior tournament
to both men and women, starter tee times within the draw times for
Monday and Fridays, created a rate card for the public with public
play and membership rates, implemented several local rules which are
published in the monthly newsletters, and provided a rules seminar
conducted by Dick Baughn and Witta Priester. Brendon Hudson is the
new Evan’s Scholarship candidate this year needing 25 caddy
experiences with our members this summer. A signup sheet will be
posted in the ProShop.
Pete Wilson, Green’s Committee chair, introduced his committee
members. Signup sheets are now in the ProShop for the June 14th
course work party as well as the “Adopt a hole” program where
volunteers can sign up to assist in divot patrol and landscaping
duties for a hole of their choice. Pete also expressed his thanks to
Danny for all the work that he does for the golf course.
Marty O’Brien, House Committee chair, reported that three job
descriptions are ready for final review at the next board meeting.
Judy Nordyke gave a communications update. The Bylaws and
Management Policies are now posted on the website in the Members
Only section. Two new policies have been added this year: 1.13
Monetary, Property, and Services donations and 3.2-1 Outside Play by
Non Members. She also reminded members to be sure to notify the
Business office with any address, phone, or email information
changes for continued club communication. Judy thanked Mandy Abrahms
and Terry Samphire for all the work they have provided.
Tyler Sweet, General Manager, announced that Sunland will be
hosting the ESPN tournament (the Regional Qualifying ESPN
tournament) this year with the potential of 120-130 players. The
regional qualifiers then go to Las Vegas for the National ESPN
Challenge. Tyler also announced some upcoming club events: “Senior
Prom” dinner June 9th; Sunland will be hosting the TOP (Teams of the
Peninsula) women team players here on Monday, June 13th; Men’s Club
mixer June 15th; Member/Member event June 17 & 18th; July 4th social
and golfing members 3-par club golfing event; and the Men’s Club
Member/Guest 25th anniversary tournament held July 14 – 16. Tyler
also is booking tournaments for a 3-year rate. Boeing league is
considering a late October event. He encouraged all members to
invite a guest to our events and remind people that the clubhouse
has room rentals for different functions. Tyler thanked the Men’s
Club and the Mullikins for the great job on the coat closet outside
the banquet facilities. A sign will be going up on Hole #2 facing
Sequim Avenue advertising weekend public tee times available and
memberships available; also working on placement of a sign on Hwy
101. Tyler thanked his “team” of employees at the clubhouse.
Following the formal quorum establishment presented by Judy
Nordyke, Bill Engle introduced the newly elected Board members: Bob
Greer, Mark Warren, and Allen Weinert.
There being no further questions, Bill Engle adjourned the
meeting. The new Board went into Executive Session for the election
of the new board officers.
Respectively submitted by
Judy Nordyke, Secretary
